Deep in the heart of Jakarta's slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world's most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the run-down apartment block has been considered untouchable to even the bravest of police. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, the building's lights are cut and all the exits blocked. Stranded on the sixth floor with no way out, the unit must fight their way through the city's worst to survive their mission. Starring Indonesian martial arts sensation Iko Uwais.

There's a sliver of a plot to The Raid, but it's really not worth going over -- when the characters pause to talk, which is rare, it does tend to kill the film's momentum.

4/5★ If you like your action movies with more action and less story, this is the movie for you. Rough, tough and mind-numbingly, amazingly violent, The Raid is non stop adrenalin: Someone is getting hit, kicked, stabbed or shot during most of the incredibly intense fight scenes. There is little character development to distract from all the bloodshed; whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is up to you! Verdict: For the action connoisseur.

This movie does justice in its own right by making you cringe, and teetering on the edge of your seat with high octane action that seems to never stop. The violence, the fights, and of course the loosely strung together storyline makes Raid Redemption a must see movie. The violence it self is amazing, the gun battles, the hand to hand combat, and the destructive gore is what makes this movie amazing.

Heard a lot about this movie and how good it was. It's certainly of interest if you're interested in relentless bone-jarring violence. Plot is paper thin; an elite swat invade a building to takte out a crime boss. The elite squad all get massacred almost immediately, apart from the protagonist and a few comrades. There's a huge gunfight at the beginning, but they obviously used up all the bullets in Indonesia as beyond that they resort to bladed weapons and bare fists. The protagonist beats up hundreds of low level henchmen on his own. Of course this being a martial arts film they all patiently wait in line to attack him one at a time. There are some boss battles on the way before we arrive at the bloody finale. The plot is very reminiscent of a video game and the violence is relentless and gratuitous. It's ok if you're into choreographed fight sequences, but I prefer something like Die Hard which has characters, a story and a little humour, in addition to all the violence. This movie is just wall to wall fighting.
