Deep in the heart of Jakarta's slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world's most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the run-down apartment block has been considered untouchable to even the bravest of police. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, the building's lights are cut and all the exits blocked. Stranded on the sixth floor with no way out, the unit must fight their way through the city's worst to survive their mission. Starring Indonesian martial arts sensation Iko Uwais.

Plenty of reviews have come before so I'll keep this short. It is, simply put, the best action film since Die Hard. It is a genuine shame if you let a reluctance to watch a film with subtitles keep you from watching this gem. It is only made all the more impressive given the fact that it was made on a shoestring budget (by Hollywood standards, anyway). A must watch.

The best film I saw this year. And I think it should please all the people who enjoy martial art. Some parts deserves to be cult. And the photography directing is also pretty good.

You can say this is the future of filmmaking: this Indonesian film was made for measly 1,1 m$ by a Welshman! It has some VERY fast and kinetic fight scenes but they leave enough room for the story to unfold and for the characters to develop. A SWAT team has to clear a gangster building floor by floor and the film has a gritty look and feel and the gang members are convincingly vile and agressive.

Heard a lot about this movie and how good it was. It's certainly of interest if you're interested in relentless bone-jarring violence. Plot is paper thin; an elite swat invade a building to takte out a crime boss. The elite squad all get massacred almost immediately, apart from the protagonist and a few comrades. There's a huge gunfight at the beginning, but they obviously used up all the bullets in Indonesia as beyond that they resort to bladed weapons and bare fists. The protagonist beats up hundreds of low level henchmen on his own. Of course this being a martial arts film they all patiently wait in line to attack him one at a time. There are some boss battles on the way before we arrive at the bloody finale. The plot is very reminiscent of a video game and the violence is relentless and gratuitous. It's ok if you're into choreographed fight sequences, but I prefer something like Die Hard which has characters, a story and a little humour, in addition to all the violence. This movie is just wall to wall fighting.

Great action, dialogue driven as well. Acting is good, my copy has good translation subtitled. Very decent plot and though unbelievable to Americans, not too crazy for certain places I've lived as far as corruption, gangs and violence are concerned. It is over the top obviously but I've seen and heard of lower scale craziness. The filmography is very well done, doesn't abuse the "shaky Byrne cam" thing.
