The Professionals (1966) C-117m. ??? D: Richard Brooks. Burt Lancaster, Lee Marvin, Robert Ryan, Jack Palance. Far-fetched yet exciting western with all-star cast. Texas millionaire Palance hires four adventurers to rescue his kidnapped wife from notorious Mexican bandit. Impressively staged action scenes and glorious Widescreen photography make this a worthwhile diversion. Shot by Conrad L. Hall.

Pure Hollywood Western fun and games. A film that never takes itself over seriously and has fun with its all-star cast. I mean, seriously, there is enough testosterone in this film to make you grow chest hair and a moustache before the opening credits are finished--Lancaster, Marvin, Ryan, Strode, AND Palance all in one film! Somebody give me a cigarette.

"The Professionals" é um daqueles filmes mesmo a sério, em que três ou quatro fabulosas sequências de acção estão à partida garantidas e o Lee Marvin fala só quando é necessário. Eventualmente este fabuloso western consegue mais que isso ao deixar-nos totalmente concentrados durante uma cena de vai ou racha para os quatro profissionais do título. Muitas vezes é como se fossemos o quinto elemento da equipa: aquele que fica de fora a torcer para que ganhem os bons (se bem que "The Professionals" deixa a distinção entre bons e maus ligeiramente em aberto para que ninguém se sinta muito seguro). Mas afinal quem é que resiste a puxar pelo Burt Lancaster enquanto ele anda aos tiros no deserto mexicano? Não há como voltar as costas a um tratado de entretenimento e companheirismo como este.

The Professionals American western film written and directed by Richard Brooks. Starring Burt Lancaster, Lee Marvin, Robert Ryan, Jack Palance, Woody Strode, and Claudia Cardinale. Tue screenplay of the film was based upon the novel 'A Mule for the Marquesa' by Frank O'Rourke. It received 3 Academy Award nominations 'Best Director', 'Best Adapted Screenplay', and 'Best Cinematography'. Four soldiers of fortune (Lee Marvin, Burt Lancaster, Woody Strode and Robert Ryan) hired by Ralph Bellamy to rescue his wife (Claudia Cardinale) from Jack Palance. Excellent photography, and marvelous performances from lead actors bring this film to noteworthy praise, filled with sometime humorous dialogues and intelligent tactics to fight outlaws. This is probably one of overlooked western films.
