My personal favorite film of all time... how can you not love a father in vengeance mode slaying convoys of British troops with a hatchet? It was emotionally violent, with a hint of reality around every corner. The portrayal of the revolutionary war especially the mansion acre scene set a firm foundation and tight boundaries for other movies that followed this gripping revenge film. The Ghost with the hatchet was my first favorite hero, thank you Mel Gibson... not for your reputation flaws and bad habits, but for movies like these that show your true genius.

If you don't like bloody war then don't watch this film. Also you need to place Mel Gibson's insanity in real life aside and recognize that he is a good actor. Overall this is a great movie and it is relatively historically accurate thanks to cooperation with the smithsonian institute

My favorite movie from Mel Gibson(besides "The Passion Of The Christ") with America's war against the French, Mel Gibson slowly loses his family, he decides to become the Commander of the army and helps out America to try and win this war its a great movie.

English ppl rule all over the world... They never give u ,,, we toke over....Peaceful farmer Benjamin Martin, a sadistic British officer murders his son.....He retreat and hold the line his army to win the battle..that part was brilliant war technical ..Then his son was better soldier then British officer... Movie was base on American independent war..Learn a lot Blue VS Red..

This movie has given me chills every time I've watched it. Intense! I love historic/period films.
