Beautifully acted, beautifully directed, beautifully shot, beautifully written, beautifully paced, I could go on and on about J.A. Bayona's horror masterpiece. The movie that is so perfectly crafted that it is able to scare you even in scenes that take place in the middle of the afternoon. Hands down one of the best movies I've ever seen.

Just to get this out of the way: THIS MOVIE IS IN SPANISH! You have to read the subtitles. If you don't "do" subtitles, go rent "Dracula 2000" or something. Plus there's no real gore in this film so you probably wouldn't like it anyway. For those of you who are comfortable with your literacy, you're in for a treat. This is an amazing psychological horror film with an absolutely heartbreaking and amazing ending. The cinematography is beautiful and the acting is superb. I'm just amazed.

I love this movie... it's so sad and I love Belen Rueda's performance as Laura - horror movie performances are rarely as deeply felt and beautiful as this one.

I considered "El Orfanato" to be more of a suspense as opposed to a horror film, and I loved it! The storyline was fresh, the ending caught me by surprise, and although I don't scare easily, I'm sure plenty of others found this perfectly frightening.
