Perfectly decent war/escape movie. It lacks some of the inventiveness and plain fun that make The Great Escape, The Bridge On The River Kwai, Papillon or similar classics so special. However Hardy Kruger'Â?Â?s charisma and an excellent ending lift the movie above average.

Very close to actual events without embellishment and a real, human portrayal of a German soldier instead of the usual cartoonish evil Nazi image.

The German POW character played by Hardy Kruger is not terribly different from Steve McQueen's star-making role in The Great Escape - the dedicated escape artist who singlemindedly focuses on getting out of enemy clutches.
