This is a little gem of a film that I caught on TCM the other day. It's based on the true story of Luftwaffe pilot Franz Von Werra, the only German POW to escape from British captivity during World War II. Hardy Kruger plays the young fighter ace with lashings of charm and charisma, so much so that you really find yourself rooting for him after a while, although he is technically the enemy! Even if you don't like war movies you should still enjoy this one, as there's plenty of humour and some genuinely suspenseful moments. Catch it if you can, you won't be disappointed.

Decent enough quirky war film with a fair amount of suspense... it's starnge that you actually start feeling sympathy for the Nazi pilot towards the end and will him on to escape.

Very close to actual events without embellishment and a real, human portrayal of a German soldier instead of the usual cartoonish evil Nazi image.

Quality film, especially considering it was made reasonably soon after the war yet the Germans aren't portrayed as evil or anything

A very high quality movie. It was consistently tense and exciting throughout. I didn't feel for the main character as much as I felt the movie wanted to, but other than that, this movie is great.
