In 1960s Tokyo, Gonda owns a bar in which the gay, cross-dresser, and trans scenes meet. Gonda is in a relationship with the madam of the bar, Leda. As the younger Eddie starts a passionate affair with Gonda, she ignites the jealousy of Leda, unaware of another kind of history between them.

when i saw this for the first time l fell in love with eddie. seriously.

At times the film can feel like a surreal dream and it can shift without warning back to reality.

An AMAZING film. I hope that it gets released in the US at some point. Same with Matsumoto's other films. _Shura_ is also amazing.

heavily stylized in the way I like it. I'd normally say something trite like "came for the style, stayed for the social critique," but Matsumoto goes beyond such simple distinctions and ought to be recognized for this visionary feat alone.
