A tongue-in-cheek comedy about a cop fighting for self-respect in a dinky little Chinese province. Pretty funny, a little weird and loopy at times, but also really cute.

Lu Chuan's The Missing Gun must have been quite a revelation for a whole new generation of Chinese filmmakers, no doubt including Ning Hao of Crazy Stone fame. A clean break with the traditional style of the so called fifth generation, Lu's camera is never static as he literally jumpcuts his way through the film. But as the pace slows down after the frantic first half, so does my attention, and I'm left with a stylish, groundbreaking movie with a rather thin plot.
