described by Godard as 'christianique, sadistique', this important film made by Bresson is a story of a delinquent French girl raped by an older man. french cinema can't possibly get better than that. love bresson.

Mouchette is a very strange individual, but her mother is dying, father is an asshole and brother is just along for the ride. The story lacks character development and dialog. What exactly happened?

another Bresson film viewed recently. unlike many art noveau directors, Bresson has been having a close and direct scrutiny of the social / econ situation in the age he lived, tackling the child and child sex abuse issues which were relatively senstive in the 60's and uncovering adult hypocrisy. just 80+ minutes long and telling what it has to tell, it gives enough room for thought

The first time i saw this i didn't like it. It didn't help that it is very disturbing and depressing. But something about the Haunting look of the main character, ( Mouchette is a 14 year old French girl) and the genius film style of Robert Bresson that made me reluctantly go back to it. It is not a difficult film to understand but i had to see it about five times before the full impact of the tragedy seeped into me. So see it if you've got the courage, but you may need as much patience as I had.
