I always find it peculiar that captivating movies get bashed on RT. This one starts rather uninteresting, but thats definately NOT how it continues. Suspenseful and worth your time. Miami newspaper reporter (Russell) becomes the sole cotact for a maniacal killer, but as the headlines (and murders) continue, it becomes a question of who is "using" whom. Based on the novel "In the Heat of Summer" by John Katzenbach. The Mean Season makes deft use of the thriller form to examine the relationship between those who report the news and those who make it, and how that line can blur dangerously. The film is very honest about how seductive a byline can be.

Reporter becomes a conduit to a serial killer in the Miami area and many front page articles follow. Big win for the Miami Herald over the Post. Police don't seem to able generate many leads on their own. Kurt Russell, as usual, is strong in the lead.

ok thriller that runs out of gas towards the end and becomes a bit silly in the process. Kurt Russell plays Malcom Anderson a burnt out Miami reporter who becomes the mouthpiece for a ruthless serial killer who intends to carry out 5 murders. What Follows is a race against time to catch the killer and save his realtionship with his girlfriend before both parts come head to head. The film is good cast wise with an Early turn for Andy Garcia as acop on the case and Richard Jordan as well i wont say anymore. The big problem is the film is trying so hard to be thrilling the last third becomes so stupid it kills all the tension that happens before. The old is he dead?or not dead? routine comes off half cocked and despite the casts best efforts i was left feeling a bit cheated. Good stuff then but i have seen better.
