Marlboro! "Ok, but I'm not taking off the tie."

One of those films where you walk out of the theatre and think "That film was amazing. It had everything." Elliott Gould's Marlowe is maybe the most likeable protagonist I've ever seen in a film.

Elliot Gould striking matches everywhere and Sterling Hayden getting completely drunk. Plus Schwarzenegger in skivvies.

Robert Altman's great, if controversial, take on Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe. PM is a bit like Rip Van Winkle, like he stepped from the 40s to the 60s, hippy chicks across the way. A great cat food sequence and an early Arnie appearance. Not a film noir though! A big influence on The Big Lebowski too...

Brilliantly conceived and largely misunderstood by too many Chandler die-hards. Gould's finest hour, in my opinion, and essential to the ongoing success of the noir subgenre.
