The Long Good Friday (1980)

In the late 1970s, Cockney crime boss Harold Shand, a gangster trying to become a legitimate property mogul, has big plans to get the American Mafia to bankroll his transformation of a derelict area of London into the possible venue for a future Olympic Games. However, a series of bombings targets his empire on the very weekend the Americans are in town. Shand is convinced there is a traitor in his organization, and sets out to eliminate the rat in typically ruthless fashion.

One of the best British gangster movies finds Bob Hoskins' character, Harold Shand, a mob boss, the target of the I.R.A. as they kill his associates and plant bombs in many of his establishments. The thing is, though, he has no idea why they want to kill him and those around him. Tight little thriller works on many levels but it's Hoskins who caps it as he disappears completely into his role as a man, who fancies himself as calm, collected, and professional but turns into a beast trying to stop the madness around him. Great film with great sequences, including its final moments.

Bob Hoskins face during the ending of this movie should be shown to every acting class anywhere. So many emotions spoken without a single word.

Remember don't fuck with the IRA in any way which way possible. Thats what Bob Hoskins learns in this "Great"modern gangster flick. This w/ Laker Cake which share simpler scenes and raging dark humor about 1 man's rise to the top and then his violent end.Hoskins one of the best enduring cockeny rage performances of all time.Like a bulldog attacking raw meat on the docks of the river Thames
