wow absolutely terrific. don't let the slow start fool u into thinking it's some kind of boring detective story. outstanding performance by eli wallach in one of his first roles. i'd venture to call it one of siegel's best films

Don Siegel is such a badass director. And long before he made Dirty Harry, there was the hard-edged "The Lineup". Guns, drugs, murder, car chases, and a wheelchair bound man getting pushed off a ledge! The only thing missing really is the femme fatale. Otherwise, it's a great late noir. Eli Wallach is outstanding, channeling a Beat Takeshi-like performance to his murderous intentions. Worth it even just for him. A suitcase is stolen from a train station, and subsequently the carrier is killed in a car crash. The police find in the suitcase was a doll full of heroin, and decide to return the suitcase back to the owner, to try to figure out where the heroin is going.
