To be honest I've read a few reviews before voicing my opinion. I was fascinated by how people saw this movie so differently. Someone thought there was only one true story in three perspectives we saw in the movie. The other one I’ve read claimed that the film tries way too much to please the current #metoo narrative. In my opinion, the film doesn't give a definitive answer to what is an undeniable truth, at least in regards to certain aspects (I'm not refering to the main question of guilt, that one is obvious). It does show that every person sees himself/herself as the hero of the story and that is what I liked about it. I thought performances were great. It was great seeing Ridley Scott do medieval stuff. I just couldn't miss that. The only minor issue I have with the film is that it was heavily advertised to have lots of action and it doesn't deliver on that part. It's great whenever sword fighting happens but there wasn't much of it.

Scott has long made movies about how systems of power exist to serve only the powerful, from the faceless corporations of Alien to the indifferent cops of Thelma and Louise. As The Last Duel rumbles to its bloody conclusion and its two leading men clash, it’s clear that the filmmaker’s allegiance lies elsewhere.

It's very rare these days to get a medieval historical epic for adults; and its a shame that this has tanked at the box office. The story is beautifully told from the different perspectives of the main characters. The characters are complex and fleshed out, the set design and costumes are immaculate, and all the performances are top notch (especially Jodie Comer). The duel itself at the end is epic, its visceral hard-hitting action that's filmed with such care. Please see this in the cinemas to support it.

The fancy, but boring medieval drama that miserably fails to even achieve the premise’s goal of stretching-a-short-story-about-womanising-and-let’s-distract-the-audience-from-an-obviously-small-lazy-story-into-a-Michael Bay-length-movie-with-good-set-design-so-audiences-will-be-happy! Expand

The Last Duel, which was adapted from a non-fiction book by Eric Jager, is a knotty, stimulating drama with a piquant #MeToo edge and the heft and splendour of an old-school historical epic.
