The Land Unknown (1957)

Navy Commander Alan Roberts is assigned to lead an expedition to Little America in Antarctica to investigate reports of a mysterious warm water inland lake discovered a decade earlier. His helicopter and its small party, including reporter Maggie Hathaway, is forced down into a volcanic crater by a fierce storm. They find themselves trapped in a lush tropical environment that has survived from prehistoric times.

Not bad as far as B movies go, but really, who takes a helicopter to the north pole?

Fun in a 1950's Saturday matinee low-budget sci-fi sort of way. This might be the winner for the worst "dinosaurs" in the history of cinema. :)

Easily laughable dialogue, rubber suit dinosaurs, lizards inside a minature set, and an actor named Jock Mahoney? How can you go wrong? This black and white big budget sci-fi movie was quite a film for Universal, but sadly, it was just pretty generic, and became easily forgotten about. But looking back, this movie has all the elements necessary for a B-movie, including using stock-footage to try to incorporate it into the story! Just don't take it too seriously, and it can be fun.

Probably the most underrated dinosaur film of the 1950's. I adored it but at the beginning of the end it started to become less good but still deserve three stars. Great looking black and white; But the forest sets are noticeable ad the dinosaur effects are cheap and also the film contains a lot of stock-footage. Good film, recommended!

Despite its obvious flaws, it was mildly effective in its imaginative and realistic treatment of a pre-historic lost valley.
