The King of Masks (1995)

Wang Bianlian is an aging street performer known as the King of Mask for his mastery of Sichuan Change Art in a true story. His wife left him with and infant son over 30 years ago. The son died from illness at age 10. This left Wang a melancholy loner aching for a male descendent to learn his rare and dying art.

This movie has so much to say - and says it so very well. Wonderful film from China about a street performer and his newly acquired apprentice.

Change is the theme but it is always difficult to change the tradition and culture! This movie really reflects the chinese culture and the unfairness to the girls in china. This is a great movie which moves me to tears at the end!

I watched this movie in my Chinese class yesterday. Really well done in terms of plot and characters. You really need to see this even if you haven't seen a Chinese film before!
