Overall, Johnston has crafted an engaging and easily relatable dark comedy in The Ice Cream Truck that made for a very enjoyable watch for this writer.

I think she was writing a book about "what ifs" in her old neighborhood. I think she met everyone but turned their "boring, suburban" lives into a novel; hence- the reason she came earlier than her family (to cure her writer's block)
