The House That Dripped Blood is a good, but not great film. The film gives us four stories about a house that uses people's personalities to terrorize and destroy them. The stories are kind of fun, but are not as scary or interesting as they should have been. The most satisfying story stars Christopher Lee as a single parent whose daughter is a witch.

Cushing, Lee, and Pitt's dirty-pillows are memorable as always, but only the Lee section fully coheres

The PG rating can be felt in this horror anthology. Even if the stories are passable, a film like this needs some memorable scenes that linger in my mind like a nightmare painting. Unfortunately, I'm already starting to forget these tales.

Amicus films made plenty of horror anthologies in the UK throughout the 60s and 70s, and The House That Dripped Blood is by far one of their best. Although I should mention that there's no actual blood spilled in a film called The House That Dripped Blood. Despite the lack of dripping blood, the films works thanks to some extremely atmospheric direction, a wonderful cast, and a solid script from horror scribe Robert Bloch. When dealing with the short story format you usually get a stinker or two in the bunch, but I actually enjoyed all four stories presented here. Sure, some are still better than others, but even in the slower stories you have great actors to hold your attention. Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Jon Pertwee and Denholm Elliott carry each of their stories quite well. The House That Dripped Blood is the type of campy, fun, atmospheric horror film we unfortunately don't see anymore. Highly recommended for fans of old school British horror.
