An inept directorial performance collides with a career acting performance to make the total product mediocre. Duvall is awesome, but misused drama and boring presentation kill the buzz.

With a little more artistry this movie could have been one of the greats. Unfortunately it feels a little bland and has aged terribly. The storytelling mechanics of this movie are so dated it renders what would have been powerful and moving kind of boring and uncomfortable. Still you can't judge a chicken by its feathers right?
