the best attempt at capturing the essence of one of the best novels of all time. not many movies suck me in and keep me there, as quickly and for as long as this film can. it is simply captivating and visually stunning.

I loathed reading the novel in high school. I never sympathized with the insipid Daisy or the title character. However, Leonardo DiCaprio brings Gatsby to life. I love Baz Lurhmann's films and this was no exception. It's a spectacle, but you cannot turn your eyes away from the lavish scenery and the phenomenal crop of actors. I do not understand the negative reviews in the slightest. Was especially impressed with Tobey Maguire's performance as Nick - the only character I cared about in the original source material.
