The Grandmother is a bizarre little surrealistic short film that blends Terry Gilliam's Monte Python animation together with Luis Bunuel's early surrealist short (Un chien andalou and L'Age D'or). In this early film, Lynch blends abstract animation together with surrealistic, live-action film to create a fantastic parable about the nature of dysfunctional families and the need for love. Because of his apathetic and even absuive family, the protagonist child must grow a grandmother from a seed in a true body-horror fashion in order to inject genuine love into his love. Pretentious and heavy-handed, The Grandmother is still a short film that gesures towards the later great works of its director.

If anyone has anyone has seen David Lynch's Eraserhead and would like to see a fertile mind craft something similar but in a far more abstract manner then The Grandmother is your answer. I didn't think I'd find this as memorable as it ended up being, but it's certainly effective at its ability to disturb and fascinate you. Less focused on story and more about images and feelings, it will certainly give you something to remember.

David Lynchin varhaista tuotantoa parhaimmillaan!! Tunnelmallinen selkÃ¤piitÃ¤ karmiva kuvaus perhevÃ¤kivallan (luultavasti??) monista kasvoista. Idea siitÃ¤, ettÃ¤ isoÃ¤idin voisi kasvattaa kasvinsiemenestÃ¤ on hupaisa ja nerokas!!! Elokuva muistuttaa kaikessa kauneudessaan ja kauheudessaan maalausta!!! Huomaa, ettÃ¤ Eraserheadissa on otettu vaikutteita juuri tÃ¤stÃ¤ pÃ¤tkÃ¤stÃ¤.

-early lynch. creepy as fuck. never really wanted to look to deep into this one because it creeps me out too bad. definitely check it out if your into his early work like eraserhead though
