A young girl is raised in a dysfunctional family constantly on the run from the FBI. Living in poverty, she comes of age guided by her drunkard, ingenious father who distracts her with magical stories to keep her mind off the family's dire state, and her selfish, nonconformist mother who has no intention of raising a family, along with her younger brother and sister, and her other older sister. Together, they fend for each other as they mature in an unorthodox journey that is their family life.

I don't understand the bad reviews. I loved this movie. Just go see it.

Wonderful performances by all of the lead actors. It captures the life of a having a narcissistic parent closer than any movie I've ever seen. I want to hug, punch, and thank Brie for capturing the pain and confusion of wanting to be carried for by someone who simply isn't capable. It is NOT an easy movie to watch. It is NOT a date night movie. It is a wonderfully acted story about the challenges of life when the people you should be able to count on above all others...can't be counted on.

I read a bunch of reviews after seeing the movie. I really think that ones own world view and upbringing would influence the way you'd interpret the film. Growing up in an alcoholic home, I experienced a well intentioned parent who made a lot of mistakes. It wasn't all bad and my mind wants to focus on the good, and dismiss the bad. I related to this films conflict and gave me a new perspective on my own journey
