A young girl is raised in a dysfunctional family constantly on the run from the FBI. Living in poverty, she comes of age guided by her drunkard, ingenious father who distracts her with magical stories to keep her mind off the family's dire state, and her selfish, nonconformist mother who has no intention of raising a family, along with her younger brother and sister, and her other older sister. Together, they fend for each other as they mature in an unorthodox journey that is their family life.

The critics are wrong. This movie is terrific. Academy award material. Best actor and actress. Great movie. Not sure what the critics are scoring.

I really and truly believe that a film should be rated on how it affects you. By how it makes you feel. Because isn't that the point of art? Isn't that what the best art is? Art should be measured by how much it affects you, by how much you think about it later. This film has made me feel for these people like no other film has, in fact, as I am writing this, I am still sniffling from the tears it brought from my eyes. If I try to explain how important it is that you see this film, I will be at a loss for words. Just please go and watch this.

Despite its muddled structure, the strong performances and even-handed perspective on irregular parenting and lasting family bonds successfully translates most of the narrative texture from page to screen.

Exceptional performances by all. Great casting for all characters. The young actor portraying a young Jeannette Walls was amazing! Brie Larson and Woody Harrelson were great. All three are worthy of Oscar nominations. Very well done! I am astonished at the low critic score.

This movie that I Just finished watching on Amazon prime kept my attention from beginning to end. The story was heartbreaking and relevant and love won in the end.
