The Devil Rides Out (1968)

The powers of good are pitted against the forces of evil as the Duc de Richelieu wrestles with the charming but deadly Satanist, Mocata, for the soul of his friend. Mocata has the knowledge and the power to summon the forces of darkness and, as the Duc de Richelieu and his friends remain within the protected pentacle, they are subjected to ever-increasing horror until thundering hooves herald the arrival of the Angel of Death.

Christopher Lee is the good guy (for once!) and Charles Gray is the bad; that, plus a Richard Matheson script, means that this is going to be worth watching.

Christopher Lee plays the good guy for a change. Wonderful Hammer film with Lee battling a devil worshipping cult led by Charles Gray.

Probabily the best film Hammer ever produced, this tale revolves around a Devil worshipping cult led by Mocata (Charles Gray), and they have Simon (Patrick Mower, later Rodney Blackstock in Emmerdale Farm :P), who is a young friend of Duke of Richele...(read more) au (Christopher Lee), who has an acquired knowledge of the dangers of the dark arts, and he might be as powerful as the Devil himself. A very creepy and surprising film, although some of the special effects have dated badly, it's still a great pleasure to watch, and does emit some shocks. 5/5
