About as black as a black comedy can get. You need patience for this one: it's bleak and slowly-paced, but the acting is the most realistic I've ever seen and the big picture the film paints with Mr. Lazarescu's story is worth taking in.

sometimes slow moving, but almost always interesting. Love the verite style, terrific acting, especially from title character and the assorted doctor's he meets along the way. Made me think about it long after watching, but I wish the subtitles I had were less retarded.

beautiful, unfeigned movie. you'll only really understand it if you're romanian. it's great to see romanians making something that could be considered art after nearly 50 years of festering communism. if it's one thing communism did, it's opress and crowd, which breeds art after stagnation.

Very good. Starts slow but midway has you yelling at the characters on screen. Dialogue is hilarious and dripping with sarcasm. Characters are real and sympathetic.

Such a terribly affecting and humane movie in the least likely of circumstances (the prosaic life of an old drunken man) and in a difficult place (a tired but striving post-communist Romania). Gentle and tender.
