This movie will certainly make you hope you never wind up in a situation where urgent surgery is needed but no one wants to actually do it.

A tragic, yet sometimes funny, tale about a man who's had one too many drinks and is near the end of his run. For the most part this film reminded me of "The Death of Ivan Ilyich," which I love, but at a whopping 2 and a half hours, I was just hoping the guy would kick the can already. Once he starts going to hospitals where people basically ignore him the story is intriguing, but the 45 minutes leading up to that point where he's just in his apartment is a bit of a drag. It's worth a watch if you like subtle/slow-paced films and have a good dark sense of humor.

Really good, darkly and miserably funny farce about being chewed up in the medical system in Romania. "Sicko" made me wary of returning home to the crappy privatized US system less I fall ill, but now I'm just as worried about sticking around Eastern Europe lest I fall afoul of a crappy *socialized* system...
