For Mustapha, Hassan, Hédi, and Rached, the event begins on Saturday evening. What matters tomorrow is the victory of the favorite team. On Sunday, the city is celebrating. In the stands, the crowd is in a trance. On the field, the result does not satisfy the desires of our four supporters. It's a disaster. Fights and injuries. Violence and bitterness. Solid sports movie about champion Australian jockey Damien Oliver, and the tragedy he went through in losing his brother, to then go on and triumph in the 2002 Melbourne Cup. It doesn't grip you in the way that 1983's "Phar Lap" does, but it's a quality movie that should please sports fans.

I loved it! The actors were not small enough or squeaky enough to make realistic jockeys. But a very good movie!

I found The Cup to be a pleasant-enough viewing experience. At the same time, I was never as riveted as I have been by other, similarly-themed films. It makes you feel good without ever truly stirring the soul.

The Cup doesn't dig deeply enough into its characters. Everyone is portrayed in a positive light and it's as if the writers were too afraid to challenge the audience.
