Nice dancing scenes, but the story was ... weird. :-) I didn't get it.

The narrative is a mess despite the simplistic twinning of tales, and - worse yet - keeps interrupting the heart-stopping hoofing.

Despite what you have heard Coppolas wildly overbudget film has plenty going for it. The film has plenty of dash and verve and some excellent dance and violent set pieces Richard Gere and Diane Lane are fine as the two leads but what makes the film so good is the supporting cast. Bob Hoskins ,James Remar ,Nicholas Cage, Fred Gwynne are all standout performances,and Gregory Hines conjures up some some memorable danc e numbers. The plot is a little light in places and the film does suffer from length issues but like Scoresese's Flawed masterpiece New York New York i feel this film will become more higly regarded as the years go by . A really good flawed film well worth seeking out

The music and dancing isn't enough of a substitute to make this a satisfying film and it may seem more distended than it really is.

Phenomenal Soundtrack, decent story, good acting. Intentionally or not, this stands a good prequel to "The Godfather" trilogy, and is (in my opinion) in many ways superior in entertainment value.
