Well-meaning film and there is no doubting the sincerity of the cast (most of whom were not even born yet). However, the film trots out just about every cliche in the Sixties playbook. The scene in which the young folks in the courtroom burst out in a spontaneous chorus of "We Shall Overcome" would be almost laughable if it wasn't intended to be so serious. Add this to a half-baked list of films (Taking Woodstock and Flashback come immediately to mind) that could be subtitled "The Way We Weren't"

Interesting and painful to watch. Historical context brought true perspective to the atrocities inflicted on the protesters and activists of those years. Free speech was only tolerated if it didn't disrupt the status quo.
