This has to be my most favourite ghost story of all time. The fear is all in the genius of the script, cinematography and sound with practically no gore to ruin the suspense. I agree with most who say that this is a very under rated film.

I love good spooky movies - and it takes A LOT to spook me. This one is still the spookiest I've seen, a good haunting story - in spite of the cheesy, overwrought ending. The pacing and subtle build up of the haunting are very effective.

This is what horror should be. An absolutely unbelievable film guaranteed to ruin at least a few nights of sleep. Medak paces this just right. The film gets that pacing and STORY actually matter to making a horror film get under you skin (and isn't that the point of horror films anyway). Scott is incredibly sympathetic as an emotionally haunted man, and his performance really helps ground the film in reality.
