The Captain's Paradise (1953)

Mediterranean ferryboat captain Henry St James has things well organized - a loving and very English wife Maud in Gibraltar, and the loving if rather more hot-blooded Mistress, Nita in Tangiers. A perfect life. As long as neither woman decides to follow him to the other port.

Lacks something of the charm of the Ealing films -- though it's hard to pinpoint why -- it's an all-too-often-overlooked Guinness film that deserves rediscovery

cool movie where guinness plays a suave dude who has 2 wives.

I watched this movie last night for whatever reason...I actually became enthralled and missed most of the Fiesta Bowl because I was watching it. I had never even heard of this movie before but thoroughly enjoyed this. It is quite sly. I don't want to post a spoiler but it comes across as very sexist until the end when Alec Guinness's character has his luck run out. Yvonne De Carlo is quite sexy and not rail thin either I might add. If any of you watch old movies and know of others like this that you would suggest I would appreciate it.

Starring Alec Guinness, this mildly entertaining British comedy was nominated for the Motion Picture Story Oscar.

Amazingly funny farce about a captain of a ship who has two wives in two different ports, and two very different lives. He has it all under control until little things start him on his downfall. Somewhat predictable in the end, but still great to watch. As usual, Guiness and Celia Johnson steal the show
