Excellent music, cohesive story, writing and dialog are intelligent and real, performances were good to excellent and touching, actually had some funny moments too. This is a much underrated and very smart film about life and just like the real thing it's way too complex to be wrapped up in a fully resolved feel good package at it's end. Unlike some I would have been thoroughly disappointed if the film had ended in any less of an indeterminate way. See this film, it's well worth time if you want something genuine and something to think about. A higher IQ might help on this one.

Jenna Fischer shines as a chain-smoking, Budweiser-slamming single mom in this laugh-out loud family comedy. Though unlikely to gain accolades, or even recognition, from critics, this film fares far better than most comedies of the dysfunctional-family variety. Set in 2002, the plot finds Fischer recently widowed from a loveless marriage and left to care for a wildly ungrateful adolescent son. The movie takes a comic yet troubling turn when the lad tells a whopper of a fib regarding his father's death. Bowing to her maternal instincts, Fischer runs interference for her son as the audience awaits the inevitable revelation of the truth. Though often uncomfortable, at its heart this is a sweet movie and a showcase of brilliant acting.

First off ... the writing is horrible; which is too bad as the cast is good and just has nothing to work with. Don't waste your time on this poorly written film. Just made me feel awkward through out.

I first saw A Little Help back during the 2010 Seattle International Film Festival. It was without question the very worst film I had the disservice of sitting through the entire festival.

I've been trying to put my finger on why I enjoyed this movie so much: It's not a polished flick, it is not a perfect script, and it is not without its flaws. A tiny, independent film, only generated about 100k at the box office, but here's the thing: Jenna Fischer was incredible, in fact, all the performances in this film, was top-notch, organic, and real. I believed in these characters, their relationships, and their conflicts, and I honestly cared about their lives and their complex, messy world. I have no doubt, after watching this film, that Jenna Fischer, is an actress that is going to break out in Oscar-worthy ways. A Little Help, is a little flick, that you'll be able to go back and say, this is where it began. I believe you can watch it for free right now on HULU, and I think it's worth a couple hours of your time.
