The Boy is a film that you don't encounter often. It doesn't rely on pageantry, bells & whistles, or special effects... But takes the viewer on a psychological journey that leaves them disturbed, questioning, and wanting more. With two more films coming to complete the trilogy, viewers will no doubt be taken through the character development of the young lead with depth and precision (no doubt leading to an explosive final chapter). I believe this film will become a benchmark in the thriller/horror genre. It is honest, it is chilling, and it forces movie-goers to look in the face of unadulterated evil.... The kind that is born & bred right next door.

While the score goes out of its way to make his every action feel sinister, the picture doesn't fulfill its horrific potential until the third act.

The Boy [US, 2015] Slow. Perhaps too slow that I became apathetic towards the the boy with sociopathic tendencies. 6/10

Although the score does well in building up suspense, no real scares are delivered. The Boy is boring and unsatisfactory until the last few minutes which by then is too late.
