Garner does Rockford under the guise of Philip Marlowe. A likeable performance of cheesey 60's pulp fiction with a cameo by Bruce Lee. Makes for an enjoyable Sunday afternoon viewing!

Garner makes for a pretty poor Marlowe who lacks the sense of grace and style previous actors did so well. The plot is confusing, but that is to be expected. What is not expected is how boring it is, mainly due to Garner's lackluster performance.

Good updating of Raymond Chandler's "The Little Sister" with James Garner as Phillip Marlowe. Bruce Lee also shows up in a small supporting role, in his first US film appearance. This film eared an extra star from me just by virtue of James Garner being awesome.

enjoyable as a period piece, letting us see an older character in a then-modern setting

Most people will probably watch this film because of Bruce Lee's scene-stealing turn as a mobe assasin who's weapon is his unearthly martial arts skill. Bruce is great, but there is more to reccomend this film than him. The film is an adaptation of a Raymond Chandler novel, "Little Sister," updated to 1969 and featuring the always great James Garner (but somewhat miscast) as Phillip Marlowe. The other show-stopping performance is by Rita moreno as a stripper. This film can be seen as the missing link between HARPE and THE LONG GOODBYE, as private eyes with 1940s sensibilities tried to adjust to "modern" LA.
