Nineteen-year-old Danny Flynn is imprisoned for his involvement with the I.R.A. in Belfast. He leaves behind his family and his sixteen-year-old girlfriend, Maggie Hamill. Daniel Day-Lewis doing what he does best. The plot is really good as well, dealing with the IRA and a forbidden love between Day-Lewis and an old flame. Also, it seems that Cinderella Man's style and plot points seemed to borrow a lot from this movie, but out of the two, this is definately the one to see.

Two of the most talented, complex yet natural actors in the world playing the leading roles - what could be better? The story is brutal but the ending is a surprise (for a fan of happy endings).

I had wanted to see this when it first came, but kept putting it off for some reason. I am glad I finally watched it, such a good movie. Daniel Day-Lewis is great as always, and I also enjoyed the performances of Emily Watson and Brian Cox. Apparently Day-Lewis trained in boxing for 3 years in preparation, and he looks physically excellent in it. Check it out!
