The Black Stallion (1979)

While traveling with his father, young Alec becomes fascinated by a mysterious Arabian stallion that is brought on board and stabled in the ship he is sailing on. When it tragically sinks both he and the horse survive only to be stranded on a deserted island. He befriends it, so when finally rescued both return to his home where they soon meet Henry Dailey, a once successful trainer. Together they begin training the horse to race against the fastest ones in the world.

I remember seeing this in the theater. Probably the best movie about a kid and their horse. Very touching and moving film

A great story beautifully brought to life visually and with music, and with very little dialogue. You experience the story from the point of view of the boy and the horse. There is no other movie quite like it.

Saw this for the first time. Wonderful movie with a great score and amazing cinematography. The island sequences were beautiful to watch and the whole movie was very entertaining. A lot of fun to watch and Mickey Rooney was did a good job, it's nice that he got nominated for it.
