Double and Triple cross in mexico as an army officer is trying to stay out of jail and find a thief.

A road trip noir that offers some astounding visuals and a few gripping scenes, but nevertheless stays somewhere in the middle of the list in this particular category. What's crucial to point out is the fact that even though, for most of the time, the story flaws with time without any significant turns, yet in the ending it offers such a twist that it simply is more surprising than one might expect. Don Siegel created a very compelling movie about a man, who chases a guy who framed him for a robbery, and who is also chased by the law. A cat-and-mouse tale with a very interesting characters. And it all happens in the hot and sweaty outposts of Mexico. Worth a watch.

Monday, June 27, 2011 (1949) The Big Steal THRILLER One of few early films directed by film veteran Don Siegal (Dirty Harry, Invasion of the Body Snatchers), which can just be as relevent if it were to be made now, which centers on loot stolen from an US army base with Lt investigator Robert Mitchum as Lt Duke Halliday having to go through Mexico to retrieve it! Movie cuts to the chase and is never boring, as soon as the star gets off the ship, chasing someone with a new interesting revelation as the film progressses! Strong 3 out of 4 stars

For fans of Out of the Past (1947), seeing Mitchum and Greer together again, albeit in a very different type of movie, is a treat. It's not a great film but it's enjoyable viewing for Noirvember.
