The Bastards (2008)

A 24 hour period in the lives of Fausto and Jesus, two undocumented Mexican day-laborers in L.A. Each day another task, each day the same pressure to find money. They go about their daily routine, standing on the corner at the Home Improvement Store waiting for work to come. Today, the job they are given is well paid compared to their poor usual wages.

Two Mexican laborers who lack control over their own lives seize control of a troubled woman's one evening in this flawed but ultimately powerful film.

This was very slow paced with lots of silences, but it was very well shot and had a great atmosphere to it. Some very uneasy moments as the film progresses culminating in something very nasty. Excellent performances, great film.

This movie is a trainwreck. I sat with my finger on the remote button about to change the channel for the entire movie. I was unable to turn away. It haunted me for days.

Very good movie. the cover is misleading. this is not an action movie. The pacing of the movie is slow but handled quite well. Though i imagine a lot of idiots are gonna pick this one up looking for Desperado. Thankfully Antonio Banderas is nowhere near this film, instead you will find some of t...read morehe most accurate portrayals of Mexican migrant workers on film. and an interesting comment on the clash between two very different cultures.

Incredibly slow moving movie (some static shots last 4 or 5 minutes!!). The dreadful pace leads upto a horrific scene in the final 15 minutes that is truly shocking. I couldn't help but think the writers came up with that scene and how to shoot, then built a movie around it. Still, even though the pace was tiring and seemed like nothing was going on, I found myself interested in the two main characters.
