Kabluey (2007)

Leslie is left with few options when her husband is sent back to war in the Middle East. A modest amount of help arrives in the form of his brother, Salman, who is less than prepared to care for the couple's two preadolescent boys. When Leslie still can't make ends meet on her own, Salman is forced to find employment, but, with minimal qualifications, his only option is to become a mascot for a digital company by donning a bulbous blue costume.

Surprisingly fun movie with a touch of dark humor. Full of great character actors, though they could have left the marsha from the brady bunch out of it. Felt like they just put it there for her name and face. Conchata Ferrel would have been more of a pull for me.

I loved this movie! It's a given that we'd hear the stories about the heroic efforts of the soldiers in Iraq. But you never hear about the heroes back home, the ones trying to keep it together for the duration of a tour of duty. And this story is done in a really tender, funny way, but doesn't shy away from the hard stuff. Really well done. I'm going to keep my eyes open for more Scott Prendergast movies in the future!

Pretty good little film with nice performances by both Lisa Kudrow and Scott Prendergast. Not perfect, though, as it failed to explain the reasoning behind sending a man to hand out flyers in the middle of a desert road where only cars drive by every once in a blue moon other than the fact that it's funny, I guess. And the jerk off boss only existed as a plot element, but hey. I liked it anyway.
