The Barefoot Contessa (1954)

A washed-up filmmaker gets a second chance at stardom when he discovers stunning peasant Maria Vargas dancing in a Madrid nightclub. Goaded by his producer, the director convinces Maria to screen test for, and then star in, his next big picture. But as the producer's possessive nature and the realities of stardom weigh on Maria, she seeks a genuine lover with whom she can escape.

Love this movie so much! Both Humphrey and Ava were SPECTACULAR. Ava practically jumps off the sceen. Shining performance!

Filmaço que a tempos estava no pc e eu não assistia. Demora para achar o ritmo mas depois não para mais, direção e roteiro fodas. Melancólico e triste mas com um humor negro e crítica que sempre estão presentes nos filmes de Joseph L. Mankiewicz.

Truly what a disappointment this film was I expected so much more from Joseph L. Mankieweiz so much more. A very dull romance triangle that seemingly just went no where at all, just seemed like continuous pointless dialogue. This film lacked so much... sets, good performances & to my disbelief the most wooden performance actually received an Oscar...how is this? A very frustrating & disappointing film.

The Barefoot Contessa is an excellent film. It is about has-been director Harry Dawes who gets a new lease on his career when independently wealthy Kirk Edwards hires him to write and direct a film. Humphrey Bogart and Ava Gardner give amazing performances. The script is well written. Joseph L. Mankiewicz did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the drama and mystery. The Barefoot Contessa is a must see.
