Louis Calhern's steely restraint, Marc Lawrence's sweaty desperation, Jean Hagen losing an eyelash, Marilyn Monroe and her "big banana-head", John McIntire barking commands and judgment like a terrier, James Whitmore's love of cats, lascivious Sam Jaffe slipping up on his drool and Sterling Haydn dying beautifully. What more do you need?

Seriously, one of the best noirs I have seen so far. It has that touch of humanity that John Huston adds to his movies. Beautifully shot with visual influences of Citizen Kane. What a treat for me!

Being one of the first movies to view the criminals side of the jobs under the veil of "wanting just to make it home to the farmlands" this one opened up the Heist genre for us all. Definitely a great film and cast.
