Unlike certain past ventures of Knightley’s, there’s little or no sense of us being given a Big Performance, and she’s often rather moving as a result.

The script, by Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse, conveys little beyond the fact that Stephen and Rachael are both sad, nice to each other, and very attractive.

5 months after WWII officially ended, we have here a love triangle, starring Keira, Aleksander and Jason Clarke. I watched this drama admittedly for a little escape. Is it the greatest thing since French toast? No. Was it an effective brief escape for yours truly? Yes. The triangle people are attractive, Keira lusciously costumed and the visuals are, in a word, fabulous. For me, it begged the question: What's not to like? But does it usher in World Peace? Alas! It does not.

Except the real Nazis, every character in The Aftermath has good intentions, marred by some moments of poor impulse control. And they are a little dull.
