Barry McKenzie sets off for England with his aunt, Edna Everage, to advance his cultural education. Bazza is an innocent abroad, fond of beer, Bondi and beautiful sheilas, but he soon settles into the Australian ghetto in Earls Court, where his old mate Curly has a flat.

Barry Humpries has always had a subversive attiude and in this film he gets to go all out for humour of the lowest yet funniest order. Barry Crocker is great a Barry (based on a Private Eye Cartoon) a true blue Ocker Aussie who loves fosters and hates pommie poofs. Humpries has multiple roles but of course Dame Edna is here and on good form. Many complain about the films dirty look but lets face it Britain in the 70s was a pretty grotty place and its to the films credit that you get to see this. The film does look dated in some parts andthe comedy is not to everyones taste but with some great comedy songs you do get to laugh a lot

It gets two stars for Dame Edna's (Barry Humphries in one of many roles) joke about the spaghetti to her stuck up English hosts and having the bloke who sung the original Neighbours theme tune in the lead role. Technically inept on so many levels, this (seminal?) Australian farce leaves a lot to be desired and some the jokes seems very very dated indeed. t

an antiquated but important piece of Australian kitch, rude, chaotic, obnoxius and a silly old laugh of true Ocker comedy. Will have you spouting euphumisms for peeing and vomiting in no time to the comforting strains of drag and lager

Though ripe with sterotyping and lameass humour,you can't help but forgive this film because it never takes itself too seriously.

From the days when Dame Edna was a film character above television, this rompy fish out of water comedy doesn't so much rely on any plot, more on continuous stereotype clashes to provide cultural humour. It hasn't stood the test of time well.
