This is gut wrenching and hard to watch but every INDONESIA should watch it - Indonesia needs to confront the ghost of the past if it is to ever become a great nation..

IMHO: How's this for a review?- One of the greatest and most powerful documentaries I've ever seen and yet a must-miss for most people. "The Act of Killing" is Josh Oppenheimer's brilliant look into the lives of members of one of the notorious death squads after the military coup in Indonesia in 1965/66. The thousands of murders of "communists" and Chinese were simply the normal, everyday duties of these government-sanctioned annihilators. The gut-wrenching two hours are frighteningly informative but not for the squeamish or even the average moviegoer.

The most soul-wrenching documentary I've ever seen. Examines in real raw detail the tole "the act of killing" takes on the victims, the perpetrators, and whole nations. So much universal subtext about this subject has never been more powerfully evoked. Violence is a disease and can lay claim to entire countries if we let it.
