Fun stop motion special effects by Ray Harryhausen highlight this kids adventure film. Sinbad is questing for, oh who cares, he fights a cyclops, saves a shrunken princess (the beautiful Kathryn Grant, who I've always liked), fights an evil magician and crosse swords with a skeleton (which Harryhausen would up the ante on with "Jason and the Argonauts" having a group of skeleton fighters). Bernard Herrmann also provides the score which adds up to solid entertainment!

Kerwin Mathews (of Jack The Giant Killer) makes for a pretty charmless Sinbad, I must say. (I must also say that I've never ever actually met anyone named Kerwin, ever.) Harryhausen's creatures include a snake-woman, a Cyclops, a fire-breathing dragon, a two-headed Roc (it's a vulture-ish type of bird, okay?), and best of all, a sword-wielding skeleton (later expanded into an army for Jason & The Argonauts, of course)! Thrilling Bernard Herrmann score, too. Torin Thatcher (ALSO of Jack The Giant Killer!) is a great baddie (must be something about that surname (although I've never ever actually met anyone named Torin, either)); Kathryn Grant married Bing Crosby in real life! The genie in this is just a slightly annoying kid in a turban.

This is the Harryhausen Sinbad movie that sets the standard. The cyclops scared me a lot when I first saw this. All kinds of good things are in this including the tremendous sword fight with a skeleton. You really owe it to yourself to see this one.

Perhaps this isn't really a five-star film. Perhaps this film is a little cheesy with a clean-shaven Sinbad played by Kerwin Matthews and an Arabic princess played by Bing Crosby's wife. BUT this may well be my favorite film of all time, my cinematic guilty-pleasure. Sinbad, a genie, an evil wizard, a beautiful princess -- what more could a fantasy lover want? And, to top it off, the special effects are done by the legendary master of stop-animation, Ray Harryhausen! Lovers of computer-generated special effects may scoff, but I prefer films that don't look like video games.

Fantastic adventure story telling with great Stop motion effects from the genius. This isn't Ray's best work but so far from all the movies I've seen him being involved with, this is one of the most fun. I liked the main baddy magician guy... he had that menacing look and feel to him.
