Fun stop motion special effects by Ray Harryhausen highlight this kids adventure film. Sinbad is questing for, oh who cares, he fights a cyclops, saves a shrunken princess (the beautiful Kathryn Grant, who I've always liked), fights an evil magician and crosse swords with a skeleton (which Harryhausen would up the ante on with "Jason and the Argonauts" having a group of skeleton fighters). Bernard Herrmann also provides the score which adds up to solid entertainment!

This was the first movie that I ever seen at a movie theatre. I loved it. Never get tired of watching it.

The monsters are awesome. Everything else is kinda OK. But the monsters rule.

Another landmark film for Ray with a remarkable set of animated characters. This was also Ray's first foray into using color film with his front and rear projection technique. He was reluctant to use color film due to the projected backrounds changing color when they were rephotographed for animation. He finally came up with a technique in exposing the film to cure the problem after many experiments. The smaller cyclops which fights the dragon used the armature from the Ymir from his previous film. The steel ball and socket armatures were expensive to machine so Ray would reuse older puppet armatures to cut costs. The skeleton that Sinbad fights in the film was also reused as one of the seven skeletons in Jason. The film was a hit and was rereleased a number of times up through the 70's at theatres.

My favorite of the Harryhausen Sinbad films. Pretty much everything you need in an adventure film, and you gotta live a good Cyclops fight.

Highly recommended for you
