Quite a story! I've heard about her personality, importance and disappearance from history, but it was brief, and now want to know all about her. The way the film portrays the great, free England that only wants to liberate people all over the world seems ridiculous from our recent point of view, but I believe it's loyal to the way English people thought back then. The same goes for the tragedy of aging for women...But the story is interesting. The acting, too, is old-aged but appropriate within the context.

Sir Laurence Olivier may be the greatest actor of all time but vivien leigh outshines him by millions in this film with her untouchable beauty and uncanny wit. this is definitely a must see, a beautiful love story

Wartime propoganda piece disguised as historical romance. The portrayal of Lord Horatio Nelson battling the tyranny of Napoleon is clearly meant to stir British audiences against the Nazi threat. No wonder it was Churchill's favorite. And that's the only point of distinction. The romance in this movie is awfully tepid, even more surprising (or perhaps less so) when you considered that Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier were married at the time. There's no spark, they really don't seem all that interested in each other. The movie is generally well-done but it just has no oomph to it.
