Te Ata (2017)

The extraordinary life of Chickasaw Nation citizen Mary Thompson Fisher is given a heartfelt tribute in this moving look at a culture in transition, and the way one woman used her voice to keep Native traditions and stories alive. Raised in Indian Territory, Fisher left home to pursue her dream of becoming an actress, only to find that her true calling was at home all along. From Chautauquas to Broadway and even the White House, Fisher traveled the world performing Native American songs and stories for heads of state, American presidents, and European royalty. Featuring Chickasaw citizens both in front of and be-hind the camera, this touching portrait starring Q'orianka Kilcher ("The New World") and Graham Greene honors a woman whose own story was the most inspiring one she never told.

Wonderful inspirational movie! Everyone should see this film. A rare entertaining and poignant story that will resonate with everyone. It's a plus that it is Native American story made by the Chickasaw Nation.

A beautiful portrayal of a cultural trail blazer. Te Ata is an uplifting movie of a world-famous Chickasaw storyteller who played a part in preserving Chickasaw and other Native American tribal stories.

This is such a fantastic movie with an even more exceptional message of perseverance and determination. Te Ata is empowering and inspiring. As a Chickasaw citizen, I could not be more proud that this story is being told and how it is being shared. The well-written screenplay is perfectly delivered by the cast and crew. Q'orianka Kilcher's portrayal of Te Ata is mesmerizing; you cannot take your eyes off her. Thank you to all who made this movie possible! I see new details each time I get the chance to watch it. Can't wait for the DVD!

The movie’s driving force is its mythic performance scenes, which are choreographed, sung and acted with clear, balletic conviction by the film’s star, Q’orianka Kilcher.

Nathan Frankowski’s biopic has the saccharine, deliberate feel of a Hallmark movie, that doesn’t make the woman at its center any less inspirational.
