This film is one of my favourite westerns. Essentially a satire of the Western, Dustin Hoffman plays a white man adopted by Indians who repeatedly changes sides in different circumstances.

Alors la , LE film initiatique qui m'a obsede pdt des annees. Les Indiens "contraire", la ballade irlandaise du flutier de l'armee sudiste, le vieil indien qui dit "c'est un beau jour pour mourir" (avant de mourir), et Dustin Hoffman paume dans tt ca, sur le ventre de Faye Dunaway, aah...

dustin hoffman like you've never seen him. responding to one comment it really was well known when it came out. i was 12 at the time and was so in love with dustin hoffman. in those days you could buy records of movies which basically was the movie without the picture. i memorized the whole movie word for word and can still quote alot of it the book and its sequel are really good.

Dustin Hoffman's range is never more evident than in this movie where he ages from teen to 120 year-old man who's spent a lifetime meandering between the white man, then native american cultures.
