Charming in it's own way, basically a fantasy because of the idealistic and naive nature of the film (in a way that would severely piss off a lot of people). There are some glaring plotholes, but it would probably be churlish to pick them apart in a film as sweet-natured as Big Eden.

This was such a gem when It was released..I worked at a video store and recommended it to all regulars gay and straight..They all loved me for it. It is the best gay romatic comedy/drama that I have seen in many years. It is a story of love which speaks to everyone. The writing and characters were delightful. I wish everyone was as accepting as that little small town..The world would be a much better happier place to live in..

The fantasy of Big Eden will turn many off, but I found it alluring and charming. The film is a bit clunky but still managed to affect me with its emotional moments. If only life were more like Big Eden.

The movie is as flat and plain as a television program, and most of the supporting characters (including Louise Fletcher as a kindly schoolmarm) seem equally two-dimensional, as if they had wandered in from the set of "The Andy Griffith Show."
