Take Me to the River is Picnic at Hanging Rock-level cagey about its central mysteries, and while many of its characters know what happened off-screen in both the recent and distant past, they ain't sharing the details with us, just their pain.

It's frustrating, because it has the tools and the ideas for a great film, but it's completely undermined by nearly every decision made by the characters. The final scene almost seems from another film entirely, made even more glaring by the poorly chosen end song.
