A fantastic thriller about a anonymity-seeking crime novelist from Britain who seeks an end to her writer's' block in her publisher's villa in France, only to find herself holed up with his French daughter whose promiscuity, drug use, and sarcasm at first frustrate the writer, then provide inspiration for her. This film has a great atmosphere which is erotic, philosophical, and shot through with a kind of teenage angst coming from both the young daughter and the much older writer who appears to be involved in some way with her publisher. It's full of striking imagery and vivid characterization, providing a new twist on what you might expect to find in a European villa.

Worship the stark beauty of this sexy thriller. Charlotte Rampling sizzles in this stylishly constructed flick and Ludivine Sagnier captivates the audience as we go on a daring, wild ride of deceit and deviance. It works thanks to great leads, a twisting script, and genuinely excellent direction. I was fixated on it from beginning to end. Marvelous. Go see it.

I watched it last night on TV and stayed awake until 4 o'clock when it ended. Now it's one of my favorites.

A dark, deliberately slow-paced and quietly sensual film, Swimming Pool will no doubt infuriate audiences who enjoy more plot driven thrillers, but for those with patience and a keen eye for nuance, it provides a truly astounding visceral experience.

The tension is never crushing, as it would be in an American job. Instead, it grows by increments, until you realize the movie, in its quiet way, has you snared entirely.
