Support the Girls (2018)

Lisa Conroy is general manager at a highway-side 'sports bar with curves', Double Whammies. While the movie is simultaneously a day-in-the-life farce, a cri de couer for working-class women and a testament to the strengths (and the limitations) of created families, it is more than anything an opportunity for the great Regina Hall to shine in an all-too-rare leading role.

Support the Girls is a humble, restrained movie, at times aimless as it moves along, but never devoid of keen observations.

Richard Brody 20 Jun 2018

The sharp-elbowed humor is laced with aching tenderness, tightrope-tense frustrations over money and love, and an underlying mix of social pathologies that bubbles through the show-biz surfaces...

Rendy Jones 23 Aug 2018

What makes this movie work besides Hall's performance are the supporting characters around her, primarily Haley Lu Richardson who is a little ball of sunshine that actively steals each second she's on screen.

Marisa Carpico 21 Dec 2018

Though Bujalski's aspirations are perhaps not that grand, it's easy to see [the film] as some sort of metaphor for what it's like to be a woman at this moment in history.
