The Newlyn School of artists flourished at the beginning of the 20th Century and the film focuses on the wild and bohemian Lamorna Group, which included Alfred Munnings and Laura and Harold Knight. The incendiary anti-Modernist Munnings, now regarded as one of Britain's most sought-after artists, is at the centre of the complex love triangle, involving aspiring artist Florence Carter-Wood and Gilbert Evans, the land agent in charge of the Lamorna Valley estate. True - and deeply moving - the story is played out against the timeless beauty of the Cornish coast, in the approaching shadow of The Great War.

It's old-fashioned for sure, and the characters are a tad under-written, but the picture looks lovely, is very well acted and quietly moving.

A simplistic approach undermines this intriguing true story about a romantic triangle among artists in pre-WWI England.

There's not really much good that can be said about this film. So I'll just say it was nice to see Dan Stevens again, since he no longer appears in Downton Abbey.

I have no background knowledge of the subject matter so I don't know how accurate it was. The film seemed a bit disjointed at the end.

It's sad when a movie that aspires to tell a sad, even tragic, story can't quite connect, and lies there inert on the screen instead of galvanizing or even stirring emotions the way it means to.
